Helen Walsh

Based on the beautiful Solway Coast I am an Artist and Creative Practitioner specialising in drawing and textiles, in particular embroidery. I am continually fascinated by the natural world and our connection to it. I am especially interested in birds and their feathers and use them as symbols in my work to explore our human desire to transcend; to reach beyond what we know.

Choosing to work predominantly with natural fibres such as wool, silk and linen I find myself consistently drawn to traditional textile skills such as embroidery, felting and dyeing and I enjoy the connections with the often forgotten makers of the past that working this way gives me. Increasingly I’m using natural dyeing and printing methods in my work; adding another layer of connection to both past makers and to the land that inspires my work.

I find great joy in exploring the natural world around me and aim to share some of that through my work, encouraging you to look more closely and be inspired by the beauty that surrounds us.

I am also a skilled and experienced workshop leader and work on a variety of community and education based arts projects, working with a diverse range of people in a variety of settings. I am passionate about working with people to enable them to realise their creative potential.
