Sue Wilkinson
My ideas come to me when I’m on the move and my starting point is always my sketchbook. I think, at heart, I’m an illustrator and I like the challenge of realising my sketches as paintings, collage, glass designs and prints.
Most of all, I enjoy being out of doors with a wee box of watercolours, pen and small sketchbook – I love the spontaneity!
In my workshop I really like using tools, finding the techniques and processes involved with glass and wood, fascinating.
I rarely plan a piece of work. Having collated sketches and photographs, I pick up the glass cutter, or a gouge, if I’m working with wood and just start. I think of my tools as drawing implements.
My most recent work includes woodblocks inspired by my Dalbeattie environment and these have been printed as cards.
I have always painted and have exhibited regularly since the 1980’s.
My art education has been via the Open College of the Arts, private mentoring and a year’s full time course at Leith School of Art.
