Sara Shackleton

I use collage to design and make my creative movement stories into books. I enjoy combining colour, form, pattern and word to create a visual rhythm, which links the texts and images and provides opportunities for dance and creative movement. Alongside my books, a selection of cards are also available to purchase.

I am a Dance Artist based in Dumfries and Galloway. I am trained in Margaret Morris Movement (MMM)- a Modern Dance technique, which emphasises well-being through artistic dance and creative movement. Part of my creative practice involves designing and making stories which act as stimuli for dance and creative movement exploration when I work with children and young folk. I am fundamentally interested in the dialogue across art-forms. I also develop themed workshops called – ‘Move, Make, Dance, Create’- which encourage opportunities to explore language & dance alongside visual art making, for example headdress & mask-making to enhance the performance experience for inhabiting a character, for fun and above all promotion of positive self-image through creative expression.

As well as teaching weekly dance and creative movement sessions with people of all ages, I also curate a dance residential for adults in the Spring at Kilquhanity, near Corsock, which always explores a theme and gives opportunity to explore visual art and making, alongside dance and movement expression.

In addition to working as a freelance Dance Artist and maker, I am also a Dancer with ‘Les Impromptues’- an international not- for-profit dance company, whose motto is ‘Surprise Poetic Dances, spreading joy & positivity!
