Kay Ribbens

Textile Designer

I am a founder member of the co-op, with Morag and Suzi, opening the first Artist & Makers shops in 2015, in Kirkcudbright. I have always been interested in the concept of good design in contemporary living and attempt to create a continuous collection of unusual and distinctive hats and headwear of universal appeal. I have contributed to numerous gallery exhibitions and taken many unusual commissions over the years, including for the Queens Garden Party and Ascot. My work has been sold in shops all over Europe, USA and Japan. Each piece is hand woven using high quality and ethically sourced materials, and use various techniques to produce an original piece of wearable art. My aim is to design a unique, affordable garment that can enhance an individual’s everyday life, giving them confidence and pleasure. Everything l make is based on craftsmanship and what l make is achieved through experience and experimentation. I wish to avoid anonymous mass production.
