Inspired by a lifelong love of nature, a previous career as a biologist and the good fortune to live in beautiful surroundings of Cumbria and Dumfries & Galloway, I have always enjoyed drawing and painting, especially animals, plants and local landscapes.
I use watercolour to capture local landscapes and life-like images of animals, including commissions for pet portraits. Although for accuracy (in the case of animal portraits) I do work from photographs, I prefer to spend some time observing and getting to know the places or animals that I paint, so that I can get a sense of their particular characteristics that can bring life to the painting.
I work from home – my studio is the dining room table! During the pandemic I discovered the delight of painting with acrylic on smooth stones, and I love the vibrant colours and fine detail that I can reproduce, creating unique ornaments for house or garden.
As well as framed paintings and stones I also produce greeting cards from my watercolour images.
