Joe Stassi

Joe Stassi is a locally based photographer who lives in Kirkcudbright. Born in 1963 in Bath,  North East Somerset. From his early teenage years Joe was drawn to photography working in a local shop and restaurant where he saved up to buy his first SLR camera.

He studied at Bath Technical College in art and design in the 1980s and built a commercial career where he was increasingly drawn to how best to present his clients and products by striking photography.

Along with his wife and two children Joe moved to Kirkcudbright just over two years ago and was struck by the beauty of the area finding particular inspiration in the work of Trevor Leat and his wicker horses.

Joe has showcased his work at numerous local settings including the Kirkcudbright Arts and Crafts Trail; was Official Photographer of Kirkcudbright Fringe; and Curator of the Sam Kelly photography exhibition at the Fringe: all in 2023. This is his first gallery exhibition.

“Joe Stassi has a rare eye and talent, giving a new take on surroundings, places and people using light, nature and the seasons in striking, imaginative ways.”Gerry Hassan, co-founder, Kirkcudbright Fringe Festival
